Today, I will share my past trip in Oahu of Hawaii.
I’ve been to Hawaii in 2009. I felt so relaxed with the cozy atmosphere. It was warm and dry. Most of the Japanese women might stay at fancy hotels in Hawaii, but my friend and I stayed at hostels and B&B. B&B is an independent small hotel which is very common in western countries. I stayed in Hawaii for one week. I will talk about memorable episodes.
私はバイクをレンタルして1人でパールハーバー（真珠湾）まで行きました。そこは、USSアリゾナメモリアルと呼ばれる巨大な白い慰霊碑があり、壁には真珠湾攻撃の犠牲者の名前が彫られていました。
そこを訪れるまで、私は、アメリカは真珠湾攻撃について激しく非難しているものだと思っていました。「リメンバー・パール・ハーバー」という言葉ももちろん知っていましたし。しかし、そこはただ、平和への祈りの場所でした。非難や怒りは感じられませんでした。美しい白壁に彫られた無数の犠牲者の名前を前にして自然と涙がこぼれました。
驚いたことに、攻撃で沈んだ戦艦から、当時から今までオイルが漏れ続けているのです。海を彩るその虹色はとても悲しい色に見えました。ハワイというと買い物やレジャーが有名ですが、真珠湾を訪れることも強くお勧めします。特に日本に生まれた人ならば。
Secondly, my friend and I took a canoe and went to a small island near Kailua beach which has beautiful nature. A guide introduced us about the island nature. There was a habitat of wild birds. We saw cute baby birds in nests which are on the ground. It was very impressive. Kailua was also a small cozy town.
自然が美しいカイルアビーチでは、友人と一緒にカヌーで小さな島へ渡りました。ガイドさんは島の自然について色々と教えてくれました。そこは、野鳥の生息地で、地面に作られた巣にちょこんと佇む野鳥の雛は本当に可愛らしかったです。カイルアは小さくて良い雰囲気の街でした。
Third, we met a lot of kind people in Hawaii. When we saw our map on the street, local people asked us whether we were in trouble or not several times. It was so amazing for me. Thanks to the events, now I also try to ask foreign people who seem to be in trouble.
I didn’t know why Hawaii was quite popular among Japanese people before I visited there. Yet Hawaii became one of my favorite places because of its beautiful nature, historical monuments and sweet people.
なんでハワイが日本人にとても人気があるのか、実際に行ってみるまでわからなかったけれども、今では、美しい自然、歴史的モニュメント、優しい人たちのいるハワイが大好きになりました。

今日はハワイ・オアフ島へ以前旅行したことについて書こうと思います。2009年、ハワイへ行きました。ハワイは暖かく、日本と違って乾燥していて、とても快適でした。多くの日本人女性はハワイで豪華なホテルに泊まるのでしょうけど、私と友人はホステルとB&Bに泊まりました。B&Bはヨーロッパやアメリカでよくある個人経営の小さな宿です。1週間の滞在の中から特に思い出深い出来事について語ろうと思います。
First, I rented a motorcycle and went to Pearl Harbor by myself. There is a big white cenotaph called USS Arizona Memorial with the names of victims engraved on the wall. Before I visited there I had thought that U.S. strongly blamed Japan for Attack on Pearl Harbor. You might know a famous phrase “Remember Pearl Harbor.” However, there was a symbol of engagement to peace. No blame and no anger.
Facing so many victims names on the beautiful white wall, my tears kept shedding. Then, surprisingly oil has leaked from the sunken battleship since then. Although that was a rainbow color, it looked sad for me. 最後に、ハワイで出会った素晴らしく優しい人たちについて。道で地図とにらめっこしていたら、何度も地元の人たちが、困ってない？と声をかけてくれたのには驚きました。この体験以来、私も、東京で困っていそうな外国人を見たら積極的に声をかけるようにしています。
