This blog's title is Minori's Tokyo Sketch. But today, let me introduce the house architecture in Yamazaki Kyoto named "Chochikukyo".
In July 2017, Chochikukyo has been designated as an important cultural property. It was designed by a Japanese architect Koji Fujii (1888 - 1938).
He bought an expansive land at Tennousan in Yamazaki Kyoto and it was his purpose in life to design and build his ideal houses. He made five houses, including Chochikukyo, which is the last house he built and one of his masterpieces of modern Japanese houses. It was built in 1928.
Koji Fujii pursued a house which suits Japanese climate and lifestyle.
Kyoto's summer season is hot, but Chochikukyo is cool despite of not having any air conditioner. Because it has some holes and "Cool Tubes". Cool Tubes are a bullied long tube which fetch the flesh air from the mountain.
The house's function is great and the design is also beautiful.
A dining room divider is cut as a bow shape. The lights inside the room are in different sizes but they are distributed elegantly to give the room a harmonious feel.
Earthquake-proof construction, storm protection, useful kitchen...Koji Fujii made the best use of inventiveness. And the Chochikukyo's devices and the designs are matched.
If you love architecture, and get the chance to visit Kyoto, I'd like you to visit the Chochikukyo. To do this, you need to make a reservation for your visit. This is the Chochikukyo's official web site and I also included the reservation form. Unfortunately, the page is in Japanese and I'm not quite sure whether or not tourist guides can speak English. But please try to visit Chochikukyo. I highly recommend it!
