At Nov. 3rd 2017, My friend and I went to the popular art event "Yokohama Triennale 2017" which takes place in every three years in Yokohama area. The contemporary artworks which are made by the active artists are gathered and displayed in this event.
The main venue is in Yokohama museum, as what you have seen in the picture above. The Chinese artist Ai Weiwei's big installation namely; "Safe Passage" and "Reframe" are made of some lifeboats and numerous life jackets are being attached in front of the museum. These lifeboats and life jackets are used in actuality. Ai Weiwei is one of my most favorite artists. His arts are always huge and overwhelmed people who have seen it and give us a strong social message.
I can't forget, one of his art which I saw sometime ago. The children died in Sichuan earthquake, whose backpacks ware gathered and lined up at the ceiling like a dragon's figure. It looks like children's soul goes to heaven hand in hand with each other. I was teary-eyed the first time I saw that artwork.
From my point of view, his artwork in this event depicts unity and support to each other and never leave the refugees.
This mighty bamboo installation was created by Joko Avianto named "The border between good and evil is terribly frizzy." I can't fully understand this artwork but I love abstract artworks though.
This is one piece in "Map Office." Several colored urchins are formed into a number, but if you are colorblind person, you probably can't read this. This art might cause confusion to people with eyesight problem.
This is Rob Pruitt's art work. He draws well-known person's birthday at a calendar. I love this good sense illustrations.
The Propeller Group, Tuan Andrew Nguyen confining boxed a tracing of a bullet. There is a static object which we don't usually see in our daily lives. It tells that a war and violence exist firmly.
Sachiko Kazama's creation "Woodblock Print" has a size over 2 meter. I smiled at aggressive and humorous expression.
This is a prestigious event. About 20 years ago, when I was in college, contemporary art exhibitions were always slack. I'm glad that such event is highly appreciated by most people recently.
We took a tea after the event at "Cafe Omnibus." This cafe was renovated from "Kyu-Dai-Ichi Bank Yokohama Branch." It provides fancy space for you. You can enjoy elegantly tea time or enjoy a bio wine at dinner time.
At last, we drunk alcohol at "Noge" area which is located at the back of "Sakuragi-Cho station." There are a lot of "Izakaya" and unique and mixed-up area. I don't know there is an Izakaya which has an English menu, but you can feel old Japanese atmosphere in downtown area. I strongly recommend it.
